Our Purpose
The purpose of the Historical Commission is to provide a centralized place to preserve the documentation of Newton County’s history and to provide access to the documentation.
Primarily the Newton County Historical Commission focuses on the preservation of artifacts, oral history, photographs and publications. Items collected will be items that significantly document the county’s history or an item that can be utilized for the research of the county’s history. Items can be defined as manuscripts, books, publications, maps, photographs, video, artwork, newspapers, artifacts, oral history and microforms.
The display room will focus on topics of Newton County history.
We will continue to serve as a resource center and tourist attraction for the benefit of the county’s citizens. Future activities include special events and educational programs for school children and the general public.
